I love seafood. If it came out of the ocean, I love it. Lobster, mussels, oysters, crab fish, sushi, I love it all and then some.
I love to cook salmon but I have never perfected the recipe for flaky moist perfect salmon (until now!) I got this recipe from Ree Drummond of the Pioneer Woman- one of my favorite cooking show and blogs.

Most of the salmon I have eaten/made is too underdone or dried out and bland. But not tonight ! Tonight's salmon was moist flaky juicy flavorful and so so simple to make.
Put your salmon on a foil lined baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil salt and pepper. Put the salmon in a cold oven turn onto 400 degrees and set the timer for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes you will have perfect flaky delicious salmon.
Yum!
ReplyDeleteCan you cook this with frozen salmon? Or do I need to thaw them first? The ones I have are smaller salmon.
ReplyDeleteI would let it thaw I would say to 80%! Fully frozen and you might still have raw salmon in the middle. But because they are smaller, I would let them mostly thaw and then do the same procedure :) The extra moisture of the frozen fish may throw it off a little bit but please let me know how yours turns out and I will modify for frozen fish!
DeleteThe bottom of your oven looks like you eat this all the time. I have the same problem!
Deletenice comment:(
DeleteHer oven looks like she cooks in it and doesn't just use it for photo shoots...as an oven should be!!!
DeleteIt is a little embarrassing ! I noticed it after this post ! Thanks for your kind words ;)
DeleteDo you start the 25 minutes after the oven hit 400 or right when you put the salmon in?
ReplyDeleteHi Aijai! You set the timer right when you set it in the cold oven :)
DeleteI love this recipe because not only is it perfect every time.. but easy! no waiting for the oven to hit temperature!
So you put it on the lowest rack? I want to try to replicate the recipe as much as possible!

DeleteGreat Question! Ree over at Pioneer Woman did not say but I put it on the bottom and it turned out great! I am sure you could do the middle of the oven as well. Let me know how yours turns out!
DeleteI just made this recipe, it came out perfectly! I put the fish on the bottom rack and roasted veggies on the upper rack.
ReplyDeleteThat is smart! Veggies in there as well and its like a "one pot meal" :)
DeleteJust made this for dinner. It was a huge hit! Even my picky daughter went back for seconds. The only change I made was to add lemon pepper seasoning instead of the salt and pepper suggested. Followed the cook time to the letter. It came out perfect. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteYum! Lemon pepper seasoning would be so delicious! It is so easy I love this recipe so glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteI made this for dinner tonight with a creamy dill dressing and it was delish! My picky husband even liked it. Thank for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCreamy dill dressing! GENIUS! YUM! So glad even the husband liked it! I love how easy and simple it is and I dont have to wait for the oven to preheat!
DeleteI've never cooked Salmon before. I tried your recipe and it came out beautifully just like you said! Thank you so much! I can't wait to do it again!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you enjoyed it and it worked out so well. This is why i love it, it is fool proof!
DeleteThis came out perfectly cooked, and tasted delicious. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! So glad you enjoyed it! Love how simple it is!
DeleteWe made this tonight, and it was delicious! I couldn't believe how simple it was.
ReplyDeleteso simple and so good! Glad you liked it and thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI would like to throw in some input for others to try as well.
ReplyDeleteAmazing taste orange chipotle seasoning likely the best floor I have ever had on salmon.
orange chipotle sounds amazing! Great idea
DeleteI made this again tonight and it was awesome, as usual! Super easy & super delicious!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed it Kenny! It is my go-to!
DeleteI am over the moon with the way this salmon turned out! I used Garlic Salt and Pepper and I followed the timer exactly. I live at 8,900' elevation and I seriously had my doubts if it would turn out as good as everyone was claiming. Lo and behold, it was perfect and delicious. Thanks for sharing this. It was THE easiest recipe I ever used with such wonderful results!
ReplyDeleteIt really couldnt be any easier! No waiting for an oven to heat, and the salmon comes out SO moist and flaky! SO glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteThanks, love this recipe...easy breezy.
ReplyDeleteSuper EASY! I bought Salmon at Costco, cut it in three pieces. Followed your directions and it turned out wonderful! I was a little skeptical about the timing, since the pieces were big, but it was perfect! My top rack was sort of in the middle, not real high if that helps any =) THANKS for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteSo easy and perfect every time! That was smart to cut it into smaller pieces. I am always skeptical of the timing too but it always works out! Middle rack is definitely the best option for heat circulation. Glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteMine is in the oven as we speak. I didn't cut it into pieces. I like the presentation of a large piece. I am not a big fan of salmon but needing to add some variety to our menu and paleo eating plan. It's on the middle rack, can't wait to try it!
ReplyDeleteIt's me again...Oh my gosh! It is sooo good! I am now a converted salmon lover!
DeleteSOO glad to hear!
DeleteI made this tonight and the salmon was not done in the 25 minutes. I think my filets looks about the same size as yours but they do have skin on the bottom. Could that be the difference?
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that! I have done this a million times, skin on skin off even different sizes. Maybe its just a different in ovens? How long yours took to get to temperature? Maybe try 30 minutes next time :)
DeleteI tried this recipe. Great way to cook salmon, really enjoyed. Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteThis was way too long to cook salmon - ruined a lovely piece of expensive Copper River salmon. Should have checked it earlier, will try again but for 15 minutes to 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear that! It has come out perfect for me every time (and I don't like it over done) it definitely changes regarding the size and thickness of your fish. Thanks for the feedback!
DeleteDoes it matter what sort of oven you're using? Electric? Gas?
ReplyDeleteAs a single person I often use a toaster oven, which I imagine would heat faster than either one...
Hello! I do not think this would work in a toaster oven as the space is too small. This works so well in large ovens because the fish slowly comes to temperature and is not overcooked. I would not try this with a toaster oven. Sorry and hope you find a way!
DeleteThanks for the quick reply. I'm still curious though if you did this in a gas or electric oven, and with or without a fan. It seems to me that a gas oven heats faster than an electric one.
DeleteOops sorry for not answering the main question! I did this in an electric oven :) I did some quick research "if you ask Chef Bruce Mattel, senior associate dean for culinary arts at the Culinary Institute of America. “Unless you’re looking at an electric oven with an exposed infrared coil, the two are pretty comparable,"
DeleteGood luck!
Just tried this and it came out perfectly! And easy clean up to boot! Win win!
ReplyDeleteSo easy and delicious! Glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteI came upon this a little over a year ago and I LOVE it!!! We do this once a week and my kids love it too. It comes out perfect every single time!!! I also make rice and green beans with salt, lemon and some olive oil and the whole thing disappears lol
ReplyDeleteSO glad to hear! It could not be easier and comes out perfect every time!
