I love the Holidays.
Thanksgiving especially.
A whole day devoted to eating (and being thankful).
That's my kind of Holiday.
While the menu and location changes, the morning of thanksgiving always starts the same. The Madison Jaycees Turkey Trot, a 5 mile run on Thanksgiving morning in Madison, Connecticut. I love the start the morning off with a bunch of runners and a good cause. The money supports local soup kitchens and different organizations. A great way to donate money to good causes while also working to be a healthier happier me. Win win.
I always have a bunch of friends who run the turkey trot with me or friends that I meet there. This year, Vanessa wanted to make some matching ear warmer/head bands to bring some holiday spirit to the race.
She bought some warm fleecey fabrics and the eve of thanksgiving, while most of young America is out at the bar for the biggest bar night of the year, we were getting crazy.... with the hot glue gun.
To say they turned out awesome would be an understatement.
We got so many compliments on our lovely turkey
Simple little touch made the day that much better.
While I knew I was styling in my turkey hat and my LuLu lemon pants and jackets (they were super warm!), I was a little worried about the actual running part. I took two weeks off from running after my shin splints and this was going to be the first day back into running.
Not the best way to start again.
Not to mention the temperature was 30 degrees with some serious wind.
It was really really cold until I started running.
I started the race with Stacie and Vanessa and felt great. By the time the first mile was up, I decided to go off on my own and celebrate the fact that I actually felt good. Don't you love it when a run feels good. Like really good.
I was REALLY happy with my 8:30 splits
Time off did these legs good.
More time off... Check!
Did you do a holiday run last week?
How was it?
