Take Me Back! Diving in Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean

All morning, I woke up to temperature in the teens.  The thought of the Neon Morning Running Crew starting up again is going to have to wait a few more weeks.  Well, while we wait for warmer weather and sunshine, enjoy post number 3 in the TAKE ME BACK! Series.

I have always wanted to scuba dive.  I grew up wanting to be a dolphin trainer, and have been obsessed with the ocean (and horses) from day 1.   Vacations ALWAYS involved and snorkeling and horseback riding.  My father would take his two horse obsessed daughters trail riding, and then take his fish obsessed daughter snorkeling.

I finally got my act together and in the summer of 2012, Thatcher and I completed our dive class and became Scuba Certified Basic Open Water.  In the summer of 2013 I continued on and got my Advanced Certification.

In April 2013 I joined some of my wonderful scuba diving friends for a week long dive trip in Bonaire, Dutch Carribean.  Bonaire is a a part of the "A B C Island"  (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao)  and is known for their amazing diving.  Almost entirely shore diving, this island featured gorgeous coral reefs and clear water.  This was a dive trip before anything else which meant every morning an early morning, and three dives a day.  While it wasn't the most relaxing vacation (up early, lugging dive gear, and a really bad allergic reaction which earned me the nick name COOTIE KATIE), I had the opportunity to dive with a group of people I love and trust (big one right there!) complete my first dive in clear water, reach my deepest depth of 86', see amazing fish, turtles, coral, and sponges. We had an amazing week and even spent a day in Curacao on our way back home.
