Lately, I have been thinking and re thinking the concept of "time".
I don't mean time in the sense of hours, but I mean in the sense of a lifetime. We all have hopes and dreams, ambitions and goals, a trip we want to go on, places we want to see, but they are often put into the far future. I guess this is what I have a problem with.
The trouble is, you think you have time.
I ran across this quote a few weeks ago and it really resonated with me. All this time you allotted for your dreams, for your travels and goals, is not promised. I hate to be pessimistic but your time could end next month, tomorrow, next year.
Every time I ran the idea of me going on some expensive vacation, some kind of fun travel to somewhere new, my parents often responded with a "what is the rush, wait until you are older and more stable", or the "you have the rest of your life to go on a 2 week dive trip to Egypt".
But what if I don't?
My take home from all this blabbing is that time is not given. You need to make those plans now . For me, travel is a huge part of "what I wan't to do" and I don't want to put it on the back burner. I don't want to let the weekends pass by, relaxing at home after a stressful week. I want to see everything, and I want to see it all right now. Maybe this means pinching pennies here are there, but at the end of the day, I live in a 900 square foot apartment and I don't need any more "things".
I need more memories.
I need to chip away at that bucket list
(And keep adding to it).
On a large scale, I am going to be more proactive about planning my big trips.
About not being afraid to take that leap.
Maybe an internship in another country.
Maybe another big move after this one.
Moving out here really gave me the confidence to do that.
On a small scale, I am going to keep filling up these weekends. Everyone I talk to out here is amazed by how many hikes I have been on, sights I have seen, and how much I have done in such a short amount of time. I always respond with well, I want to see everything, and I want to see it now. I put my ambitions right on the calendar, not just assign my trips to some hypothetical date in the future. I know what I want, I plan it, and I go do it.
Simple as that.
This weekend is a trip to some of the National Parks in Southern Utah. And I am also in the works of planning a Thanksgiving trip to California.
I am going to practice what I preach and get this trips planned and booked and I can't wait to share the details with you guys.
In the meantime, pull out your calendars put that big trip on paper.
Where would you go next month if you could?
What are your travel "dreams"?
