The original plan was to head out on a bigger hike, somewhere with a summit and a view. The weather had its own idea of how the day would go. Rain was forecasted for the day, with a spot of sun in the morning. Instead of a big hike, we settled for more of an "off-road walk" just a few minutes from our Airbnb. It's the perfect place to spend some time outside, especially if you have kids in tow. It's not a true hike, but it's a chance to stretch your leg on safe terrain on the Windham Path in Windham, New York, just north of Hunter.
First Impressions
The Windham Path is the perfect family-friendly trail in the Catskills. It's a relatively quiet gravel path that makes a loop around a part of beautiful Windham, NY. It would be great for small kids on an adventure or anyone who would enjoy a quiet stroll in nature without the compromised footing and elevation of most hikes. We were able to push the stroller the entire hike while enjoying the foliage in the mountains in October. The path is very well done, with beautiful benches along the way and covered bridges across the Batavia Kill (creek). There is a section (currently under construction) that will connect over to the main part of town, perfect for a coffee break midway through your walk. There is a large parking area (with a port o potty). This is the perfect place for a walk, trail run, or to bring the little ones with bikes. Stroller and dog-friendly.
